Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
Government-funded entry-level support to help you stay safe, independent and connected at home.
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is an Australian Government programme that provides entry-level support for older people who want to stay independent at home. It focuses on wellbeing, community connection, and helping you keep doing the things that matter to you. At CatholicCare, our local team shapes that support around your individual goals, preferences and circumstances.
What does CHSP help with?
Depending on your assessed needs, CHSP supports may assist with:
- General house cleaning
- Personal care
- Social support and community engagement
- Flexible respite
- Allied health services
- Home maintenance
Am I eligible for CHSP?
Eligibility for CHSP is determined through an aged care assessment completed via My Aged Care.
Generally, CHSP is available to people who are:
- 65 years or older
- 50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- 50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples) and on a low income, homeless, or at risk of homelessness
Getting Started with CHSP
To access CHSP, you’ll need to register with My Aged Care and complete an aged care assessment. The first step is the same as for Support at Home: contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au to get started.
CHSP is changing
CHSP is expected to transition into the Support at Home program no earlier than 1 July 2027. If you are currently receiving CHSP services, your existing supports will continue and our team can help you understand what the transition means for you when the time comes.
The services you can access
CatholicCare is funded to provide a variety of CHSP service types across the Macarthur, Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions, including personal care, flexible respite, social support, domestic assistance, allied health, and home maintenance.
