Angela and Mark

Angela and Mark have been foster carers with CatholicCare for over 15 years. They had a break for a few years in-between which gave them a chance to "re-charge the fuel cells" but then became foster carers again because they wanted to help local children in need.

Sadly Angela and Mark lost two of their children and Angela always felt like something was missing, "Like the house needed to be noisy". They never felt there was a difference between their biological and foster children with Mark having fond memories of the same crazy mornings before school when "everybody had to get their breakfast, brush their teeth, do their hair…and they always had squabbles but they still always had the support of each other" Mark said.

Mark and Angela's faith has played a major role in their journey as foster carers Mark said "My faith has been very good for me, it's helped me to be strong…and I look at the scriptures and the Gospels and listen to the priest and what they're saying and it's always about being understanding and loving and caring and helping people."

Mark and Angela previously took on longer-term placements as they liked the stability it provides to the children and the impact they can have on that child's life. But the most important thing is to give the children the home they've lost, even if it's for a short time.

For Mark and Angela the most important thing is that they've helped out children and young people in need, "we've helped them and they're happy" said Mark.
